Selecting the appropriate location can have a significant impact! Here are some excellent areas for a… Paris family vacation  :

Top Areas to Stay in Paris for Families with Children

  •  Marais  It’s a safe, vibrant area near the Seine, perfect for family strolls and exploring. This is one of our preferred neighborhoods in Paris!

  •  Montmartre  Features delightful charm and breathtaking views of the city, making it ideal for adventurous families. It is the location of one of the most picturesque streets in Paris and the Sacre Coeur.
  •  1st Arrondissement  This area is near key attractions and features walkable streets that are convenient for families with children. It includes the delightful Rue Montorgueil, which is lined with bakeries, chocolatiers, cheese shops, and various food vendors. During our last visit, we stayed here and discovered it was ideally situated for all the activities we planned in Paris.

Suggested Family-Oriented Hotels in Paris

  • Le Bristol Paris  Opulent but inviting for children, featuring special amenities such as robes sized for kids and engaging activities.
  • Hôtel de la Porte Dorée Affordable accommodations featuring large family rooms, conveniently situated close to Bois de Vincennes Park.
  • Novotel Paris Les Halles:  Conveniently situated, featuring roomy suites, family-friendly packages, and a designated play area for children.

This can be challenging to find in hotels in Paris, making an apartment the best choice if you need more space. Here are a few well-reviewed options: Marias  or this A family-friendly apartment located on the first floor.

Insider advice: Follow the locals and grab one of the delicious pastries from Stohrer. The almond croissant stood out as especially impressive!

Best Attractions for Families in Paris

Eiffel Tower: A Essential Attraction for Families Visiting Paris

A trip to Paris with children isn’t truly finished without stopping by the… Eiffel Tower. Consider arriving early, bringing a picnic to enjoy at Champs de Mars, and allowing the children to play in the nearby playgrounds. We descended via the stairs, which was manageable, but I wouldn’t advise using the stairs to go back up unless you’re looking for some exercise.

Tip: Visit the Champ-de-Mars, Trocadéro, or Pont de Bir-Hakeim to catch the Eiffel Tower’s sparkling light display, which occurs every night five minutes past the hour.

Discovering Paris’s Art Museums with Children

Discovering art in Paris with children involves much more than just the usual experiences. Louvre’s Mona Lisa. Although many people visit just to tick it off their list, you’ll find it’s smaller than you might anticipate and quite crowded. Your children will discover plenty to enjoy in Paris’s museums, from Monet’s Water Lilies to Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

What’s the key to keeping it enjoyable rather than tedious? A tour designed for kids will significantly enhance the experience. We loved our family tour of the Louvre This transformed the day into a fun competition for my daughters. Our guide had them striking poses like the Venus de Milo and creating their own artwork on her tablet. The children were so engaged that they didn’t even complain about the long time spent exploring the museum. Later on, my daughters even said it was one of their favorite experiences in Paris.

Featuring vibrant Impressionist masterpieces by artists such as Degas and Monet, Musée d’Orsay offers an engaging art experience. Furthermore, the artwork may be easier for children to connect with compared to the renowned collection at the Louvre. Similar to the Louvre, I recommend taking a guided, family-friendly tour  . Also, consider  Centre Pompidou If you’re interested in experiencing modern art.

Children can engage in various activities related to themes such as water play, sound, light, and the animal kingdom, and they can also attend an enchanting show at the planetarium.

Relax in Paris’s Luxurious Gardens

A great place to unwind with children in Paris is… Luxembourg Gardens offers sailboat rentals, pony rides, an entertaining puppet theater, and enchanting scenery. Naturally, it’s an ideal location for a picnic on a lovely day! Alternatively, find a retreat from the chaos at Jardin des Tuileries where children can play tag around statues and fountains.

Montmartre, characterized by its stone-paved streets and artistic atmosphere, feels like entering a fairy tale. Ascend the twisting steps to theBasilique du Sacré-CœurSitting on the hill, the view of Paris resembles a postcard, showcasing rooftops, chimneys, and the Seine River winding its way through the city.

In the past, you might have seen Degas or Toulouse-Lautrec creating their art in Montmartre, but nowadays, the area is filled with caricature artists and souvenir sellers. Nonetheless, this doesn’t take away from its charm. Capture a memorable photo of the renowned sinking house to impress the kids. Montmartre is definitely a place to visit while in Paris with children!

One to Skip – The Catacombs

We ventured down to the eerie catacombs, where the skeletal remains of the city’s deceased are creatively displayed. Although it wasn’t appropriate for very young children, it was fine for my elementary-aged kids. However, after the initial surprise faded, it became somewhat monotonous. Still, if you have an interest in the macabre, this is your place  !

Where to Eat in Paris with Kids

People standing in line at Stohrer patisserie in Paris

Cuisine in Paris is a treat for everyone, regardless of age! Here are a few spots that both your children and you will enjoy:

Helpful tip: In Paris, restaurants usually offer lunch from 12 PM to 2 PM, and dinner at many locations often begins at 8 PM or later. If you’re looking to dine outside of those hours, think about visiting more casual places like bouillons.

Crêperies Abound: Delicious Sweet and Savory Delights

Treat yourself to traditional French crêpes! Children love the sweet ones filled with Nutella, while parents can savor the savory varieties. At Breizh Café Enjoy authentic Breton crêpes with a gourmet twist. Children can enjoy classic sweet crêpes, while adults can explore bold savory galettes crafted from top-quality ingredients. With several locations throughout the city, including one in Le Marais, it’s a charming and convenient place for breakfast, lunch, or a quick snack while you explore.

Family-Friendly Bouillons

Dining out in Paris with children can be quite daunting. With a plethora of outstanding restaurants available, I was concerned that my kids might refuse to eat or cause a disturbance among other patrons. Thankfully, bouillons provide a great solution—a dining option that serves delicious food in a casual atmosphere, making it ideal for families. But what precisely is a bouillon?

Initially established as eateries for the working class in Paris, Bouillons have recently seen a revival in popularity, drawing in both residents and visitors. These restaurants serve generous portions of classic French dishes at reasonable prices, all within a lively atmosphere that echoes the charm of historic Paris.

One standout spot is  Bouillon Pigalle, you can indulge in delectable steak frites or traditional escargot while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. Additionally, thanks to its earlier opening times, you can have a tasty meal at a more family-friendly hour, steering clear of the late-night crowds often found at many Parisian eateries. Bouillon Julien While the dining room is impressive, we found the food to be inferior when compared to Bouillon Pigalle.

Berthillon Ice Cream

No family trip to Paris is finished without a visit to Berthillon Enjoy a lovely stroll on Île Saint-Louis and indulge the family with their renowned ice cream!

Carette: The Place Where Your Chocolate Fantasies Become Reality

After your tower adventure, stroll to  Carette There’s a delightful patisserie close by. Their hot chocolate is rich and indulgent, and your children’s eyes will nearly bulge with excitement when they catch a glimpse of the dessert display. The inviting atmosphere and delicious confections will energize your family for the next outing.

Chez Hanna : Spécialités du Moyen-Orient dans le Marais.

Chez Hanna  provides a friendly environment with child-friendly choices such as falafel, hummus, and fresh pita. Situated in the center of the Marais, this restaurant is perfect for families eager to try tastes that go beyond classic French cuisine. Paris is a dream destination for food enthusiasts, and you won’t have to miss out on the culinary delights, even with children in your group. Consider participating in a food tour similar to the one we experienced from Devour Tours We journeyed through the winding streets of Marais, making stops to enjoy a variety of treats such as croissants, French onion soup, and macarons.

Even the most selective children will enjoy it, and if they don’t finish their food, it just means more for you! Food tours are my preferred method for efficiently and comprehensively tasting the top local dishes. We’ve participated in food tours in both the Marais and the Latin Quarter, and both were absolutely delightful.

Create a picnic to enjoy in Paris with children.

Rather than eating out at restaurants, consider shopping as the locals do. Explore boulangeries (bread bakeries), patisseries (pastry shops), and fromageries (cheese shops) to create the ideal picnic. Enjoy your meal on a park bench in one of Paris’s lovely gardens, such as the Jardin des Tuileries or Luxembourg Gardens. This memorable experience blends food, nature, and quality family time. My daughter even found her love for French butter during this adventure and still talks about it to this day.

Looking to relive our unforgettable picnic shopping experience in Paris? Make your way to Boulevard Saint-Germain, where you’ll find everything you need within just one block: Fromagerie Laurent Dubois for cheese, La Maison de Isabelle for a baguette or croissants, and Charcuterie St Germain for meats. Shopping like this made us feel incredibly European and created one of the most unforgettable meals of our journey.

Helpful tip: While it may not be exactly the same, Wegman’s is the only store I’ve come across in my area that carries French butter. If you haven’t had the chance to try it yet, make sure to pick some up as soon as possible.
